TYPE:

A musical play in two acts

SYNOPSIS:

With the help of his new friend Colonel Pickering, the phoneticist, Henry Higgins bets that he can create a woman who could pass as a duchess at an embassy ball out of a "deliciously low, horribly dirty" cockney flower girl.

 

CHARACTERS:

NAME: Henry Higgins "sings" and dances

AGE RANGE:

A brilliant phoneticist. Self-absorbed, inconsiderate, smug. Wealthy.

45-50's

NAME: Eliza Doolittle sings and dances

AGE RANGE:

A clever, attractive, cockney flower girl who leads a dreary existence and who is willing to make sacrifices in the hope of bettering herself and her position in life. Spunky. Poor.

Early 20's

NAME: Colonel Pickering sings and dances

AGE RANGE:

Also an accomplished phoneticist, he, too, is intrigued by the idea of transforming a common young woman into an elegant lady. He's only slightly more sympathetic toward Eliza than Higgins is.

45-50's

NAME: Alfred P. Doolittle sings and dances

AGE RANGE:

Eliza's fun-loving father. Sees Eliza's new situation as an opportunity to make a bit of money for himself and his hard-drinking friends.

40's

NAME: Freddy Eynsford-Hill sings

AGE RANGE:

A very young man, impressionable, he falls in love with Eliza. Wealthy

NAME:  Mrs. Eynsford-Hill

AGE RANGE:

Quite the proper matriarch of London society.  Freddy's mother.  Very wealthy.
